HEMATOLOGICAL ALTERATIONS IN COMMON CARP (CYPRINUS CARPIO L.) EXPOSED TO PROCHLORAZ

In this study the influence of the fungicide prochloraz on common carp hematological parameters was investigated. The study was conducted on fish weighing 50 (± 10) g in aquaria under controlled environmental conditions. Animals were exposed to the fungicide for 14 days at concentration of 1 mg L-1. Next, individuals were transported to clean water for 30 days recovery period.It was determined that prochloraz caused a slight increase in packed cell volume (PCV), mean corpuscular volume (MCV) levels and white blood cell (WBC) number after 3 and 14 days of exposure. Decrease in red blood cell (RBC) number was observed after 24 hour of exposure and it was more pronounced after 3 and 14 days of exposure. No differences were observed in levels of hemoglobin (Hb), mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH) and mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC).
Hematological evaluation of fish can be useful in detection of environmental stressors, like fungicides
